DOSAGE Preseptal cellulitis
Mild/Moderate | 1 tab PO 500 mg as a single dose on Day 1, followed by 1 tab PO 250 mg once daily on Days 2-5
Chronic Blepharitis | Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
(1) Eyelid Scrubs with Ocusoft BID (2) Warm compress BID-QID x 5-10 mins (3) Artificial tearsPF 4-8x/day (4) If severe, consider Erythromycin (ung) 0.5% qHS to eyelid (5) Consider Omega-3 Fatty Acid BID + Restasis BID 0.05% (5a) If non-responsive, add on: Maxitrol 0.1% ung TID + Add on long term AB oral 1 tab 500mg qDay x 3 days for 3 cycles with 7-days intervals (6) Consider Demodex (due to presence of collerattes), RX OTC tea-tree eyelid scrubs or hypochlorous acid spray BID x 6 weeks (7) if no improvement, consider Lipiflow, intense pulsed light (IPL), and/or probing of meibomian glands

INDICATIONS Indicated in the treatment of sinusitis and skin structure infections. Often used in treatment of inclusion conjunctivitis.
MECHANISM OF ACTION Macrolide Antibiotics
MICROBIOLOGY Binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and impeding the assembly of the 50S ribosomal subunit. Azithromycin has been shown to be active against the following microorganisms, both in vitro and in clinical infections. CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic. Use caution with known heart arrhythmias, angina, prior heart attack or chest pain. Use caution with impaired hepatic function + Warfarin Meds
PEDIATRIC USE Can be used in pediatric patients greater than 6 months of age
PREGNANCY Pregnancy Category B
NOTE Inform patients that diarrhea is a common problem caused by antibacterial drugs which usually ends when the antibacterial is discontinued.
