DOSAGE 1 or 2 gtts for cycloplegia
Anterior Uveitis Treatment (Mild/Moderate) Anterior Uveitis Treatment (Severe)
(1) Cyclopentolate 1% TID or Tropicamide 1% q3-4 hrs (2) PF 1% or Durezol 0.5% q1-6hrs, depending on severity, then taper QID x 1 week, TID x 1 week, then BID x 1 week. D/c when there is no AC reaction (1) Atropine 1% BID to QID (2) PF 1% or Durzol 0.5% q1-2 hours initial, consider a loading dosage q1min for 5 mins x 2 weeks, then taper QID x 1 week, TID x 1 week, then BID x 1 week. D/c when there is no AC reaction

MECHANISM OF ACTION Anticholinergic agent
MICROBIOLOGY By blocking acetylcholine it prevents the iris sphincter from constricting and the ciliary muscles from accommodating
CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS Contraindicated in patients with narrow angles or hypersensitivity to ingredients
PEDIATRIC USE Tropicamide may rarely cause CNS disturbances which may be dangerous in pediatric patients.
PREGNANCY Pregnancy category C | Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with tropicamide. It is also not known whether tropicamide can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity.
