INDICATIONS For soft tissue infections, including hordeolum, preseptal cellulitis, dacryocystitis and dacryoadenitis.
MECHANISM OF ACTION 1st generation (moderate spectrum) cephalosporin (ß-lactam antibiotic)
MICROBIOLOGY ß-lactam antibiotic - inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall | Indicated for the treatment of skin structure and other infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and other organisms.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS Cephalexin tablets are contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cephalexin or other members of the cephalosporin class of antibacterial drugs.
Possible penicillin cross-reactivity. Consider Bactrim DS when MRSA is suspected and when cephalosporins and penicillin are contraindicated.
PEDIATRIC USE Safe for pediatric us
PREGNANCY Category B no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
NOTE No activity against Pseudomonas, enterococci, methicillin-resistant staphylococci, Acinetobacter, Enterobacter, or Serratia.
