INDICATIONS ELESTAT® ophthalmic solution is indicated for the prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
MECHANISM OF ACTION Combo Mast Cell Stabilizer / Antihistamine
MICROBIOLOGY Epinastine is a topically active, direct H1-receptor antagonist and an inhibitor of the release of histamine from the mast cell. Epinastine is selective for the histamine H1-receptor and has affinity for the histamine H2-receptor. Epinastine also possesses affinity for the α1, α 2-, and 5-HT2–receptors.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS Hypersensitivity to Epinastine or any other ingredient of the product.
PEDIATRIC USE Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years have not been established.
PREGNANCY Category C: In an embryofetal developmental study in pregnant rats, maternal toxicity with no embryofetal effects was observed at an oral dose. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, ELESTAT® ophthalmic solution should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
NOTE Contains BAK which may be absorbed into soft lenses. Wait at least ten minutes after instilling Elestat before inserting contact lenses.
