ELESTAT® ophthalmic solution is indicated for the prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

MICROBIOLOGY
|
Epinastine is a topically active, direct H1-receptor antagonist and an inhibitor of the release of histamine from the mast cell. Epinastine is selective for the histamine H1-receptor and has affinity for the histamine H2-receptor. Epinastine also possesses affinity for the α1, α 2-, and 5-HT2–receptors.

CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS

Hypersensitivity to Epinastine or any other ingredient of the product.

PEDIATRIC USE
|
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years have not been established.

PREGNANCY
|
Category C: In an embryofetal developmental study in pregnant rats, maternal toxicity with no embryofetal effects was observed at an oral dose. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, ELESTAT® ophthalmic solution should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
