DOSAGE 1 Tab 50mg -100mg qDay to BID
Meibomitis or rosacea (adults) Recurrent corneal erosion (adults)
50-100 mg bid for 2-4 weeks, then, then 20mg BID for three to six months. 50mg doxycycline BID x 4-8 weeks. Used in conjunction with topical fluorometholone 0.1% TID

INDICATIONS Doxycycline can be used to treat meibomianitis, blepharitis, rosacea, chlamydial conjunctivitis and recurrent corneal erosions.
MECHANISM OF ACTION tetracycline
MICROBIOLOGY Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Doxycycline has bacteriostatic activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS This drug is contraindicated in persons who have shown hypersensitivity to any of the tetracyclines. pregnancy, infancy and childhood to the age of 8 years) Should not be used in pregnancy, infancy and childhood to the age of 8 years

PREGNANCY Teratogenic Effects. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of doxycycline in pregnant women.
NOTE Doxycycline is used clinically for a variety of conditions: rosacea, ocular rosacea, hordeola, MGD, and more
Clinically, some prescribers prefer 100mg qd because 100mg tabs tends to be more cost effective than 50mg tabs. Hordeola dosage usually for 7-10 days.
doxycycline is available in monohydrate form as well, not just hyclate. Monohydrate may be more tolerable and hyclate has greater solubility.
