DOSAGE

1 Tab 50mg -100mg qDay to BID

Meibomitis or rosacea (adults)

Recurrent corneal erosion (adults)

50-100 mg bid for 2-4 weeks, then, then 20mg BID for three to six months.

50mg doxycycline BID x 4-8 weeks. Used in conjunction with topical fluorometholone 0.1% TID

INDICATIONS
|
Doxycycline can be used to treat meibomianitis, blepharitis, rosacea, chlamydial conjunctivitis and recurrent corneal erosions.

MICROBIOLOGY
|
Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Doxycycline has bacteriostatic activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS

PREGNANCY
|
Teratogenic Effects. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of doxycycline in pregnant women.

Doxycycline is used clinically for a variety of conditions: rosacea, ocular rosacea, hordeola, MGD, and more

Clinically, some prescribers prefer 100mg qd because 100mg tabs tends to be more cost effective than 50mg tabs. Hordeola dosage usually for 7-10 days.

doxycycline is available in monohydrate form as well, not just hyclate. Monohydrate may be more tolerable and hyclate has greater solubility.
