DOSAGE Emergency IOP Spike: 125-250mg PO up to QID Daily
Acute Angle Closure | (1) Compression Gonio to break trabecular blockage (2) Topical Timolol 0.5% , Latanoprost 0.005%, Dorzolamide 2% (3 rounds) (3) Systemic CAI: 2 tab 250mg PO (4) Recheck IOP in 1 hour, repeat PRN

INDICATIONS Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP)
MECHANISM OF ACTION Decrease aqueous production
MICROBIOLOGY Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes of the eye decreases aqueous humor secretion, presumably by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions with subsequent reduction in sodium and fluid transport.
CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS Steven’s Johnson syndrome and sulfonamide hypersensitivity
PEDIATRIC USE The safety and effectiveness of acetazolamide extended-release capsules in pediatric patients below the age of 12 years have not been established. Growth retardation has been reported in children receiving long-term therapy, believed secondary to chronic acidosis.
PREGNANCY Category C
NOTE In the case of an acute angle closure attack, do NOT use Diamox sequels as they work more slowly.
