SYMPTOMS Usually asymptomatic. Sometimes discomfort
SIGNS Elevated, hard lid lesion
WORK-UP Thorough history. Slit lamp examination
TREATMENT Lid cleaning | warm compresses | antibiotic/AB-steroid combo drops or ointment | Doxycycline 100mg qd-bid | Incision and curettage | Intralesional steroid injection | Photobiomodulation
FOLLOW-UP Frequent follow-ups are rarely necessary. Follow-up after surgery to assess recovery.

ETIOLOGY Granulomatous inflammation of a meibomian gland. Staphylococcal species are the most common bacterial source.
DIFFERENTIAL DX Preseptal cellulitis | hordeolum | sebaceous carcinoma | pyogenic granuloma
NOTES Association with demodex, hordeolum, and blepharitis.
